  • Title 101

    Title 101 offers instruction on basic principles of the land title insurance industry including Searching, Abstracting, Land Descriptions, Underwriting, Policy Forms, Closing and Escrow, Industry Regulations, and more. Members: $199 / Non-Members: $299

    Title 101 is primarily designed for new or less-experienced title employees and others seeking a basic knowledge of the title business and its unique terminology. Candidates for this course include: receptionists, administrative staff, new hires, searchers, examiners, closers, and sales and marketing staff. 

    The course is self study - students read a chapter and take a chapter quiz. Most students complete a course within two or three months. Access to the course expires one year from the date of enrollment. 

    Title 101 Objectives:

    • Introduce the student to the basic principles of the land title industry
    • Acquaint students with the title industry's unique terminology
    • Develop a solid foundation of title insurance knowledge 


    Certificate of Completion

    Upon successful completion of the course, a student will be able to download a certificate of course completion.

  • Title 201

    Title 201 offers advanced instruction on Easements, Water Rights, Reinsurance,and more. Members: $199 / Non-Members: $299

    Title 201 is an advanced-level curriculum that offers students continued instruction on the basic knowledge of the title insurance industry. Candidates for this course include: Title 101 graduates; experienced title industry personnel desiring further education; and recent law school graduates.

    The course is online/self study; students read a chapter and take a chapter quiz. Most students complete a course within two or three months. Access to the course expires one year from the date of enrollment. 

    Title 201 Objectives:

    • Broaden and deepen the knowledge gained in Title 101
    • Provide an in-depth understanding of real estate principles as they relate to title insurance underwriting and closing transactions
    • Enhance growth opportunities for title insurance professionals

    Certificate of Completion

    Upon successful completion of the course, a student will be able to download a certificate of course completion.

  • Escrow Accounting Procedures

    Escrow Accounting Procedures teaches a model system of managerial practices designed to minimize risk in handling escrow funds. Members: $150 / Non-Members: $225

    Escrow Accounting Procedures is designed to educate employees on proper escrow accounting procedures by teaching a model system of managerial practices designed to minimize risk in handling escrow funds.

    The course is online/self study; students will complete four modules, read the Resource Guide, and complete a course quiz. The course can be completed in around 2 hours. Access to the course expires one year from the date of enrollment. 

    Escrow Accounting Procedures Course Modules:

    • Escrow Agent: Define fiduciary and how it applies to escrow holders; understand the benefits of handling escrow transactions; and become familiar with basic stewardship issues surrounding escrow transactions.
    • Escrow Accounting: Identify the basic elements of internal control; learn steps to limit risks from fraud, forgery, and unauthorized or improper wire transfers; and understand and appreciate the need for sound escrow accounting procedures.
    • Good Managerial Practices: Learn the basic elements of general control procedures, including handling incoming and outgoing funds and wire transfers; become familiar with essential records and documents; understand the need for reconciling accounts and see examples of two-way and three-way reconciliations; and identify key duties to be segregated among staff.
    • Specific Escrow Control Procedures: Learn procedures for controlling receipts, disbursements and escrow investment accounts; understand the need for legal assistance when dealing with constructions disbursements; and become familiar with escheat - what to look for and what is required.

  • Ethics in the Title Industry

    Ethics in the Title Industry is designed to address title-related ethical issues. Members: $150 / Non-Members: $225

    Ethics in the Title Industry is designed to address title-related ethical issues. All title industry professionals, from closers to legal counsel and from owners to administrative assistants, would benefit from taking this course.

    The course is online/self study; students will read the materials and complete a course quiz. The course can be completed in around 2 hours. Access to the course expires one year from the date of enrollment. 

    Ethics in the Title Industry Objectives:

    • Introduce students to the basic rules and regulations surrounding the land title industry and the federal, state and local agencies responsible for compliance regarding those rules and regulations.
    • Acquaint students with the need for proper funds management.
    • Expose students to common fraud schemes and provide methods for avoiding/preventing fraud in the industry.
    • Introduce students to the ALTA Principles of Fair Conduct and discuss how they can act as a guide to assisting title companies and employees.
    • Acquaint students with some of the personal ethical challenges that they may face on the job and provide basic guidance on how to avoid pressure and temptation on the job.
    • Discuss how companies can create a code of ethics in order to set firm objectives for their employees.
